ST.JOHN'S UNITED CHURCH
Alliston, Ontario
The project initially started strictly as a masonry restoration to extend the life of the aging building fabric for the next generation. A building envelope condition study was conducted, which itemized the necessary restoration work. MORE >
Discussions soon moved to the church spire which was lost in a storm in 1948, as well as east basement exit stair enclosure which was incongruous with the rest of the church building. An organ chamber, added in the 1960's also needed additional insulation. The congregation decided to add all these items to the original scope of contemplated restoration work.
The enthusiasm of the congregation reflected in a very successful fundraising process. The project's completion culminated in the most anticipated lifting of the new lead coated copper spire, restoring the original look of the church.
