TARRAGON THEATRE
Toronto, Ontario

James Bailey Architect was originally retained to provide consulting services related to the exterior restoration of the historic building on Bridgman Avenue, which has been the theatre's home since 1971. The assignment also included a redesign of the theatre's entrance and lobby areas in order to provide a better street "visibility" of the main entrance, as well as to rationalize circulation within the lobby/box office area. The scope was further extended to include for comprehensive consulting services related to modifications to the second floor Rehearsal Hall, as well as modifications and acoustic improvements at the exits from the main performance space.

Concurrently with the above projects, James Bailey Architect began working on a master plan for the long term redevelopment of the property to provide an improved theatre facility on the existing site. The functional program was confirmed and alternative schematic designs are being developed to test different scenarios, some of which retain portions of the existing building and some are mostly new construction, preserving only the historic building "shell". The Master Plan Report which includes the selected design alternative will serve as a base for a quantity of scale budget to be used for applications for funding and fundraising campaigns.
