ST. MARK'S LUTHERAN CHURCH
Port Credit, Ontario
The Church of St. Mark (Lutheran) was established in the 1950's and the present church building in Port Credit serves a widely disbursed congregation. Since its inception, the Congregation has shared its facility with the St. Mark's Daycare Centre. MORE >
James Bailey Architect was retained by the Long Range Planning Committee of the church to undertake a study of its facility and propose a site-planning concept which would allow the church building to expand in a considered manner.
While our Scope of Work did not include a detailed programming study of the anticipated needs, we met with representatives of the Congregation and the Daycare Centre and recorded their concerns/"wish lists". What became apparent was that the activities could be grouped in four general categories: worship, education, social, and administration. Our proposal was that an expanded facility be organized in four quadrants separated by circulation/reception "spines". This would permit the expansion of one or another of these activity areas to take place independently of the others and the project could then be phased into financially manageable portions.
