Wanless Park Tennis Club is a community tennis club, operating in a City of Toronto owned facility. It has a very active membership and offers a variety of programs and activities – from children's programs and summer camps to adult clinics, teams, house league, etc. The clubhouse space being used by the Club had become inadequate and overcrowded, with the monitor's office, storage, kitchen, staff⁄coaching equipment all in one space. There was no space for members' social gatherings or for any other indoor activity.
James Bailey Architect was retained by the Club's Executive Board to develop design options for an enlarged and upgraded clubhouse space which will better satisfy the needs of the various membership groups and activities. A detailed program was prepared to determine the space requirements for each activity and a number of design alternatives were developed.
The selected design which made use of an adjacent storage space was approved by the City. The project proceeded during the winter months and the renovated clubhouse was completed for the usual spring opening of the season. The clubhouse now offers a member's lounge, a dedicated equipment storage room, kitchen and washroom facilities and a large deck with ample seating area for outdoor gatherings and activities.
